"I have been working with Ryan now for a while and let me tell you, it has changed my life. I used to think that I was in pretty decent shape. I would always have this spare tire around my stomach and back, no muscle definition and horrible posture but the mind sees what it wants to see in the mirror!  When Ryan and I started to train together I was nervous. Here was a guy with tons of experience and strength, how was I going to keep up with that? I have to say though he never made me feel like I was holding him back. He always worked with me and showed me the right way to do things. Some guys at the gym can really push a lot of weight around but their form was horrible and they got winded going up the stairs. Ryan showed me that there was a balanced approach and it was not all about bench pressing 405 pounds, squatting 500 pounds and being the biggest and baddest guy in the gym. Ryan Kolej, delivers a comprehensive training program which targets all aspects of increasing overall fitness.  What I found unique about Ryan’s approach was the combination of classic exercises with an innovative twist.  I’m always amazed at what he can achieve with the simplest of equipment.

For me personally, I struggled with obesity for the better part of two decades.  I had tried everything; prepared meals, herbal preparations, pharmaceuticals, counting calories; you name it. There was nothing that seemed to work.  I was frustrated, depressed, and had basically given up.

I started working with Ryan in October 2008.  I was skeptical as to what a personal trainer could contribute in my quest to loose weight and keep it off.  Ryan already knew the skepticism I was bringing to the table. He knew the mental and physical challenges before me, and knew how to help me address each one of them. What I like most about Ryan was how he seemed to know me better than I knew myself. Ryan taught me that some of the simplest building blocks to nutrition were actually right in front of me.  I didn’t understand how the composition and timing of meals played a large role in the science of how our bodies respond to that food.  Remember, I have a scientific mind and even though his nutrition plan made sense, it was difficult for me to realize that I was making my diet and meal choices harder than it needed to be.

Ryan’s philosophy and training is not all about nutrition. He breaks down the myths of exercise and builds a program that lays a foundation which has sweeping changes to your physique. It has only been six short months, and after more than a decade, I finally feel like I have come back to life. I have lost 40 pounds (and still going) I am enjoying activities which I thought I would never do again such as hiking and skiing.  I’m excited to take on new challenges and adventures.

"I have found Fitness On Demand in home training incredibly helpful. I met Ryan soon after having my second son. I was still nursing and having two children in two years after 40 had taken quite a toll on my body. Ryan introduced me to Ella who was able to create a plan for me that combined diet and exercise appropriate for a nursing (and sleep deprived) mother. The strength training was very critical to building my stamina. We were able to work through some long standing injuries in a program that was challenging, never boring, fun and different. What began as an arbitrary decision to pick Ryan as my team trainer in a Biggest Loser competition has developed into a very gratifying chapter in my life.

I remember my first session with Ryan, what a wreck I was: out of breath, cramping, sweating profusely, and out of gas, long before I
could reach the next station.  My diet was horrific, and other health issues were somewhere not far down the road.  As a firefighter, it was clear that my lack of fitness could even endanger my life.  In a combination of group and personal training sessions with Ryan, I stopped the downward spiral and changed my ways.
Ten weeks later, I dropped 54 pounds and achieved a 14% reduction in body fat, while eating 171 pounds of solid food!  Better still, I had a fitness/diet plan I could live with, and the practical knowledge to deal with the occasional curveballs that life throws.  I received countless compliments on my "renovated" figure, and many people asking what I did: I worked hard, and learned how to take care of myself, under Ryan's professional guidance.

Since then, I have continued working with Ryan for a number of reasons. First, I learn something from him at every class.  Second, he is the kind of trainer that motivates in a positive way, to show them that they are more capable than they thought.  Better still, he constantly adjusts to his clients' backgrounds, physicalities, and personalities, to "dial in" their diet and exercise plans.  There is no disputing that I would not have made such fantastic upgrades in my health without his involvement.

These days, I am maintaining my weight, but the transformation continues.  My energy level is great, and my capacity for work is still increasing.  I am in command of my health, ready to rock and roll.
